Paine on Monarchy Minimize

A good time to reflect on Paine's thoughts on monarchy. Here is an excerpt from Common Sense...

To the evil of monarchy we have added that of hereditary succession; and as the first is a degradation and lessening of ourselves, so the second, claimed as a matter of right, is an insult and an imposition on posterity. For all men being originally equals, no one by birth could have a right to set up his own family in perpetual preference to all others for ever, and though himself might deserve some decent degree of honors of his contemporaries, yet his descendants might be far too unworthy to inherit them. One of the strongest natural proofs of the folly of hereditary right in kings, is, that nature disapproves it, otherwise she would not so frequently turn it into ridicule by giving mankind an ass for a lion.

NY State Approves Archive Transfer Minimize

Pathway cleared for
The Institute for Thomas Paine Studies.

After 7 long years and hundreds if not thousands of volunteer hours, the NY State Attorney General and the Court agreed with the Thomas Paine National Historical Association's plan to deaccession its precious archives for permanent storage at the Ryan Library of Iona College.

Not only does this ensure the safe and professional care of the materials, but it opens the door for collaboration between Iona and TPNHA in developing and delivering educational materials about Thomas Paine.

For full information, read the Press Release here.

CRISIS III
Men whose political principles are founded on avarice, are beyond the reach of reason, and the only cure of Toryism of this cast is to tax it. ... When the governing passion of any man, or set of men, is once known, the method of managing them is easy; for even misers, whom no public virtue can impress, would become generous, could a heavy tax be laid upon covetousness.
